About the Art
For me, art making is a form of play; it should be loud, bright and imaginative. At its core, my work explores feelings of disillusionment with capitalism while celebrating the absurdity of life in the modern digital age. I approach these ideas with an ironic perspective using eclectic images and acidic colours to create narratives surrounding pop culture and mass media.
I love the visual language of fashion and I often source my images from fashion and beauty magazines. I gravitate towards acrylic and also enjoy using found images and objects to create collages. I enjoy working with mixed media because it gives me a limitless collection of materials to reach for when working. Most of my work uses vibrant colours with a disharmonious colour palette to inspire feelings of uneasiness and discomfort.
I look for inspiration all around me because I use a lot of elements of popular culture in my work. I’ve always been drawn to art from the surrealist, pop-art and dada art movements. These movements share an interest in rejecting traditional methods of representation and logic. I like to explore similar ideas and methods of art-making in my own work. I look at art with an eccentricity that reveals the deeper significance of the artist and viewer.
